New tree, learning about Mezuzahs and the most adorable Jewish cat toy EVAH!!

I've seen these trees before and in fact, my mother-in-law bought one last year. I think if you buy a fake tree and use it every year it's almost better than the real trees. There's something about growing trees and then chopping them down that makes me sick to my stomach-- though, I've heard that it's actually a good thing for the environment.

I agree, even though most evergreens grow quickly, it seems like a sad destruction of beautiful nature all for the sake of tradition.

Being of pagan background, I understand the original reason for bringing the trees inside. It was a symbol of life, a beacon of hope that the winter would soon pass and blessings were written to place on the tree, tiny scrolls and ribbons. Now days, we have nice artificial trees that hold the same symbol of everlasting green and life through the winter. It isn’t necessary to chop down thousands upon thousands of trees each year. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't just dropped off at the dump every January. I'd like to see some extra use out of the trees!

For most it's the sake of family tradition but more and more people are turning to the pleasure of nice artificial trees.
